The last time I checked I had at least 10 hard drives of various capacities.
They are just chocked full of images, some I’ve shot, others from friends and students.
The packrat in me doesn’t allow me to throw anything away.
Well, not exactly. I just wonder if there’s any photographer out there who claims to have his all his data in order.
It’s starting to get a little out-of-control.
My computing excesses aside, I never believed I would generate so much “data” in such a short time.
Of course, the fact that I am teaching compounds my computing needs for space.
My students are turning in their images even though on jpegs at their largest settings.
So assuming a class of 20 with an average of just 1-assignment-a-week and the average file being 3MB, that’s a staggering 60MB.
No offense but most of their pictures are out-of-focus, poorly exposed so I have to erase those files as soon as I grade them to free up space. Continue reading What do you name your hard drives?

We all know there’s a lot of pretty lame content on youTube. It’s free after all and it’s the biggest portal for sharing video.
The video above is by Glenda Watson Hyatt–a blogger who uses WordPress.
I’m excited that my proposal to teach this blogging platform has been accepted by UC Riverside’s Extension Center. More about the . . . → Read More: WordPress–how it can empower

I’m probably one of those who write more than I should in an email. I probably think I have more to say.
Number 1 on my list of pet peeves as it relates to email is the number of forwarded jokes where the sender hasn’t taken the trouble to delete the number of recipients. Now every one who has come in contact with the original email is listed.
You know the ones I mean where the “header” is way longer than the actual joke or forwarded message.
Sometimes there’s even embarrassing banter on there when the uninitiated hits “Reply All.” This is probably the equivalent of those phantom phone calls from folks who hit the speed dial on their mobile phones.
Now I don’t always agree with the email police who claim typing in All CAPS is like shouting.
In reality I do know folks who yell all the time whether they’re in polite company or not. Besides if everything is in caps, I can read the message easier. So what’s wrong with that?
I do know though, email users need to understand there is such a thing as BCC– Blank Carbon Copy.
Before sending out your next joke, set up a mailing list where all the recipients won’t see who else you know and do that. It’s the polite thing to do.
So I came across this videoblog by GoDaddy’s Bob Parsons which I thought was quite useful.
I find most of what he suggests as true, that’s why I’m embedding it into my post.
That and I’m feeling kind of lazy. There’s been a major disruption on the domestic front.
My wife has decided the wallpaper had to go. Ditto the carpet. So I’ve been re-located to our tiny kitchen where I’ve been sleeping the past 3 nights. Continue reading Suggestions about emails

I couldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it with my own eyes. The Los Angeles Times actually ran a photograph on its A-1 cover from a dubious source.
And I thought only Malaysian newspapers were capable of such questionable standards in judgement.. So it appears newspapers in this country are not incapable of horrible news judgement either.
I’m sure I’m wasn’t the only person who noticed the use of a picture of a missile test launch which was attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
