Guess my favorite picture

I have the brick wall till May 4.

Then it’s the turn for another artist during Riverside’s Art Walk which takes place on the 1st Thursday of every month.

For those of you who aren’t able to make it to see my work, here’s the next best thing.

MyShow

Guess which is my favorite picture

I’ve only told 4 people which among the 21 images is my favorite.

Obviously they aren’t eligible to play.

Care to guess?

First correct guess gets a signed “11 x 14” print.

Obviously, I haven’t thought this through carefully.

I’ll announce the winner on May 6th.

Your odds are pretty good I would say.

You only get one guess please.

So submit your guesses through the comments.

See the slideshow with music by clicking on the “play button” (right pointing arrow) below the images.

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance.

  1. Hi Pat,
Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting. I just learned something here about sheep, thanks to you. It was great to meet you yesterday. I’ll be writing a blog post about the lesson from yesterday soon.

  2. I hadn’t thought it would be your favorite, but I liked the sheep picture because we raised sheep in Santa Cruz, Dorsets, and Suffolk….I think those in your picture are Dorsets

  3. Tanya,
That’s a pretty good guess BUT not the right one. 🙁

The winner of the this “contest” –the first to guess my favorite picture is Mike Hayes

Congratulations Mike. Let me know if you want me to mail the 11 x 14 to you, or you will pick it up in person when you make a trip out here.

  4. I think your fav is the airplane shot. I really love the boat and the couple on the balcony. Those are MY favs! But I have a feeling you have a little thing for planes… 🙂

  5. Heather,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog. I am curious as to how and where you came across my blog. My work has another week’s stay on the wall, then it will be a memory.

I’ll have to hold off in announcing who got the first correct guess in, sorry.

  6. My guess would be the shepherd petting the sheep – if only because that’s my favorite …

  7. Peter I too love them all but if I were to guess the one you like best it would be the acrobat.

    I love them all too!

  8. I don’t know which is your favorite but for me, the little girl in Church with the white dress. Everything about this picture yells “PERFECT!” to me.

  9. @Thomas, you’re not a family member masquerading as a subscriber, are you? 😉 As you can see, I’m partial to catching people unawares. Weddings take their toll on me especially if I have difficult brides, so I must find images that I like.

@Tom Marek, the Aerial Acrobat is a 54″ x 36″ print. It’s the biggest print I’ve ever made of my work. The other giant is the photo of the groom kissing the bride on the balcony bathed in late evening light. Thankfully both held up well for JPEGs without the need for extrapolation software like Genuine Fractals. Thanks for playing.

@Michael Hayes, you’re scaring me with your recall. I have no recollection of ever mentioning those details. (in my most convincing voice)

@Lynne Friedman, I wondered about including the picture of the butterfly into the fray. It is odd, isn’t it? Odd enough, that perhaps I grabbed it off someone’s website? Thank you for guessing.

@Liz, aw shucks.. thanks. I’m willing to bet if you turn down the music on the slideshow, you won’t feel the same about the images. It’s a con job.

Bad musicians play louder to hide their mistakes. Digital photographers today can use music and other flashy animation to dazzle..

@Marv, the Guitar-playing cowboy was originally shot on Fujichrome 100 which I digitized with a scanner. It’s an old picture but I have kept it around because I’m fond of Westerns.

  10. Wow, Peter! They are all great and I can see why each one of these was picked for your show. I love all the wedding ones since you managed to capture such key emotions and I feel like I could fill in the script on what they were saying or thinking. The world around me becomes very quiet & peaceful when look at the one with the boy on the boat. The one with the couple kissing on the balcony looks like she is grabbing the rail and gathering it up with a pull in response to his kiss. I like them all.

  11. I am guessing that it is the photo of the butterfly. Amazing clarity and balance/combination of colors. The butterfly seems to have an attitude in this side shot, and it comes alive!

  12. The girl hanging from the ribbon would be a good guess since you made it the center piece in your display but I don’t recall you mentioning it in any of your recent posts. The fishing boat was my second guess but I don’t think that’s it. Recalling the story of how you brought this man beer and enjoyed his conversation, I think the sheep herder is your favorite of the bunch.

  13. It must be the shot from the plane. It’s alway been one of my favorites from your blog.

  14. I’ll guess the first one with the girl hanging from the ribbon. Even if I guess wrong, if I was in the market to buy a print to hang in my home, this would be the one I would buy.

  15. I’m guessing the last one, of the big guy giving a hug, with his eyes closed… because I think you are a big softy at heart 😉

  16. @Linda, thanks for playing and how insightful of you to pick the only picture on the wall where there is no person in it.

I know I might mentioned what Ansel Adams said about how a photograph always has 2 people in it: the photographer and the viewer.

@Kathy, thank you also for playing. The boatman was taken off the coast of Borneo in the East Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu (City of the Chinese Widow) when I went home for a visit in 2007.

The map below shows the approximate area where I took this picture give or take a few feet in the South China Sea. Thanks for playing and for your very kind words of encouragement. 😉

  17. I think your favorite is the boat on the water- it is beautiful (they all are) but this one looks like it was a tough shot.

  18. I think your favorite pic is of the cowbow playing his guitar. Personally, my favorite is the one of the flower and butterfly.

    Linda
