Freezing fast motion is one of the abilities of your DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera.
In this project, we will be using your camera’s top shutter speeds 1/4000 sec to stop various actions.
The one that quickly comes to mind is a bursting water balloon.
Gear
- Water balloon
- A thumbtack or pin for bursting balloon
- DSLR with lens set at 55mm focal length
- Camera set at 1/4000 sec probably ISO 800 aperture f5.6 (this will depend on your location but we shot ours in the bright sun outdoors)
- Set drive on the camera to “Continous”
Procedure
In an open area outdoors (water balloons can create a mess) have your partner hold their water balloon in their outstretched arm.
They will count to 3. On 3, they will pop the balloon with the pin.
Photographer, when you hear the count reach 2, hold down the shutter button
