I’ve finally joined the millions who own a smartphone.
I was paying around $100 a month for 2 dumb phones through Sprint.
When I called to see if they would reduce my monthly charges, they told me the best they could do was their $65 monthly plan for 2 phones with 600MB shared data.
So the logical thing to do at that point was to go and buy 2 used smartphones for around $150 a piece.
I would recoup the cost of buying the 2 iPhone 4s in a matter of ten months.
There are many advantages no doubt of having these phones.
But there are many undesirable effects which can be best summed up by this wonderfully hilarious cartoon by Liam Walsh I came across on Facebook.
We have become so wired, that darn device often takes precedence over the person we are dealing with in person.
I won’t even go into the subject of driving and texting.
So far I’ve found the convenience of the built-in digicam for documentation a definite plus.
The adage “The best camera is the camera you have with you” applies.
I went by my favourite coffee house Back to the Grind to check on the status of a picture I donated to help raise funds for my buddy Darren Conkerite this morning and I was able to grab a quick shot.
Naturally Apps which make our horrible lives bearable abound. 😉
I of course added an Instagram account.
I can’t promise riveting images but feel free to follow my activity there if you’re bored.
I’ve already found one super useful.
It’s called the Tile App.
Paired with it’s companion Tile which you can attach to various items, this App will allow you to find lost items like your keys.
Ok, before you all go smart-alecky on me, “Just don’t lose your phone!”
Those tiles are light weight and don’t require batteries or so I’m told.
I threw one of the tiles in a compartment of my camera bag.
I guess if my camera bag were to walk away, I’d be able to locate it.
When you get close enough, you can make the tile beep and there’s the good ol’ map which shows in real time where the tile is.
Amazon Prime users have unlimited online storage so Amazon’s Cloud Drive is a no-brainer if you are already a Prime user.
As I use my iPhone 4s more and more, I’m sure I’ll discover more and more Apps that will make my miserable life more pleasant.
If you have any Apps to recommend and share please leave them in comments. Thanks everyone.
