I captured this young girl having fun dancing at Riverside’s Tamale Festival
As a Lightroom user I love its ability to quickly sort through my pictures so effortlessly especially when I want to quickly see the images I made over the course of one year.
A candid moment I captured of UCR’s Chancellor Kim Wilcox as he spoke to students at the Highlander Union Buidling
Assuming you do nothing but rate your pictures after importing them into your catalog, all you need to do is go back to the library module and select “All Photographs”
Step 1–Select “All Photographs” on the left panelStep 2–Sorting in Lightroom: sorting by year. After selecting “All Photographs” on the left panel, click on Metadata. Currently “None” is selected.Step 3–Go up to the “View” menu and choose “Sort” by “Rating”Miracle is always a pleasure to photograph. I’ve worked with her twice and each time, I get something different and she makes it so easy for me.
When the search results come up, the default view is going to be a grid view of everything you photograph in the year you selected.
In my case, I click on 2015, so every picture I shot that I rated with a star will now be displayed.
If I wanted to further automate this process next year, I can simply create a “Smart Collection”
While you’re in the Library module, look for the “Collections” panel on the left and choose “Create Smart Collection”
Creating a smart collection1–automating this task is too easy. The toughest part is setting up the rules you want. See the following screen shot for my rules.I have one of the rules set up so that as long as I have rated my pictures at least 1 star and it was taken in the range between 2015-01-01 and 2015-12-31, any picture meeting those rules is automatically included into the smart collection without me having to do anything else.

I capture this image of this precious little girl dancing during the Tamale Festival at White Park
Fairmount Park is a frequent haunt of mine because of the innumerable possibilities as a backdrop for portraits. Lots of shade any time of the day makes it ideal for my purposes.

It’s the time of the year when we take inventory and look over the memories and pictures we’ve captured.
It used to be I would dread this chore, Lightroom makes this too easy.
I just set up a Smart Collection now and change the date range and forget about until the end of the year.
Have a Prosperous and Happy New Year everyone.
I realize not many of you say much in the way of comments but you’re out there.
