AOW#1 Artist of the Week Collaborations

Elizabeth Raburn in High Key
Matt Campbell photographed Elizabeth Raburn in our classroom . We used 3 Yongnuo Speedlights. 2 were shot into silvered umbrellas at the same power setting and the key light was inside a sofbox and it was placed as high as the ceiling would allowed us.

Recently we started collaborations with El Modena High’s Visual and Performing Arts Dept.

Each week a student, or in this case 2 students, are nominated by the various teachers in Visual and Performing Arts.

I task my Photo 2 students and challenge them to each take turns to create portraits of Artists of the Week.

Elizabeth Raburn and Nathan Fung collaborated and performed Frank Sinatra’s classic “Fly Me to the Moon” recently Valentine’s Day Coffee Night.

Photo 2 student Matt Campbell using  a Nikon D5300 and Yongnuo 50mm lens photographed dancer/singer Elizabeth Raburn by herself in high key in our classroom studio area.

Later,  when guitarist Nathan Fung, the other nominee for Artists of the week was able to join Elizabeth, we tried again to photograph them.

This time, Jesus Rodriguez took pictures.

By the way, Jesus Rodriguez was himself nominated as Artist of the Week in Photography.

Elizabeth Raburn and Nathan Tung were the Artists of the week.

We don’t really have the space to shoot full body currently due to space constraints. See the picture below to see why.

Our portraits are made in class using Yongnuo 560IV speed lights and their companion transmitters.

This is the 1st week of our collaboration and we expect to be able to feature more El Modena High’s wonderful artists.

Please feel free to comment to give our photographers feedback and support their wonderful efforts.

As you can see, we don’t have room to shoot full body pictures, so we have to do a lot of post production in Photoshop to remove light stands and other things
