As many as 35 people gathered at El Modena High’s front campus Friday morning May 1st.
They had stacks and stacks of yard signs bought and paid for by El Modena Education Foundation.
Among them were: teachers, counselors, administrators and volunteers from the non-profit parent run organization El Modena Education Foundation. They had all come to help distribute these to El Modena’s graduating seniors.
Under overcast skies and cool temperatures they worked efficiently to the beat of 2 boom boxes.
Strains of Rupert Holmes’ singing “if you like Pińa Colada …getting caught in the rain ” interrupted shouts of congratulations as cars rolled past the front of the school.
A car pulled up and a voice inside yelled for one of our school secretaries Ms.Jeanette Hurtado to approach.

Moments later, after a cautious greeting exchange with the occupants, she emerged teary-eyed grasping a beautiful bouquet of red roses.
As she wiped her eyes dry, she waved goodbye to the occupants of the car.
Over by the tennis courts, every car that went by was greeted by Ms.Echavarria family heirloom cowbell.
In the air, there were freshly blown bubbles and even confetti thrown at passing cars to congratulate our seniors.
Because names weren’t always displayed in the windshield of cars as instructed, it was difficult to make out who was inside at times.
Between the tinted windows and face masks, I couldn’t tell positively who I was cheering on.
Hopefully I haven’t mis-identified anyone. If I have, don’t hesitate to reach out to me so I can set the record straight.
I’m after all a new teacher and faces and names are often a blur. When you add the face mask to the mix, can you blame me?

Hello Ms.Massey, thank you for commenting. If you have a website and contact number, please let me know and I can make a hyperlink to your website which might explain in more details the kinds of charitable and philanthropic work you guys do. Regards.
Thank you so much for your very kind donations and all your hard work making this possible for our seniors.
Good Morning!!! Your pictures are wonderful!!! Thank you for posting them. Just as an FYI, it was the ELMO Education Foundation that decided to purchase the Grad Signs for our seniors. It would be nice if you could let people know we did this for our Seniors. It was a very big decision as we work very hard all year to fundraise. We are a non-profit, parent run organization that runs Independently of any other organization. We are not part of PTSA. We are solely dedicated to raising funds for improvements at school which includes and is not limited to campus improvements, purchase of special items such as speakers for ASB and scoreboard in the gym. It’s really important that people know it was Ed Fund that was responsible for this event. We cannot make a difference at ELMO without the support of our students, parents, ELMO staff and teachers. Please let us know if you have any questions we can be reached at ELMOEducationFoundation@gmail.com Thank you!!!
