About 40 students and 3 teachers visited the Riverside Animal Services on Nov 6, 2024. Our objective was simple: photograph some cats and dogs to help them be adopted.
The wind on that particular day was insanely strong and gusty and I was a little worried our field trip would be impacted. Fortunately we were indoors.

Mr. Daylin Valencia met us in the lobby and ushered roughly half of us into the cattery and the other half headed to an enclosed outdoor area for dogs
The Riverside Animal Services Department is located on Van Buren Blvd near Clay St.
Our visit was on a Wednesday so we practically had the entire place to ourselves which was very nice. We had cat and dog wranglers who are volunteers who were so willing to help us.
Everyone on our field trip wanted to bring home a cat or a dog so badly when it was time to leave.
We didn’t spend a lot of time, roughly 90 minutes, but everyone agreed it was just the right amount of time. We capped off our field trip by heading to everyone’s favorite burger place across the street, In and Out burgers.
My intentions were to set up a few more shooting stations for the cats and I even brought backdrops, light stands and white shoot through umbrellas. We had just only one volunteer working in the cat area so I decided we only needed one setup. See if you can spot the pictures where we used our lighting setup. Hint: the picture quality is better and the background is cleaner and obviously white.
