Night and Low Light Photography

Twilight is a magical time.

Just because the sun is down, doesn’t mean you should put away your camera.

When the Sun sets, a different looking world exists for photographers.

Colors don’t appear the way they do in daylight.

Instead, colors display based on your camera’s white balance setting and how that setting matches the various light sources in your scene.

Lighting tips for successful pictures

The key to any successful picture lies in the lighting.

Whether it’s a portrait, an action shot, or even a studio shot.

For the sake of this discussion, I’m assuming light levels are enough for shutter speeds that would eliminate camera shake or subject motion.

Digitizing Analog Video with your Mac

Connecting the hardware with Mac, external hard drive and vcr for digitizing

A while ago I created a tutorial on how to digitize analog videos using your Mac. Recently I had a client bring some VHS tapes which he wanted to include in a powerpoint presentation.

You would think once you’ve done it you can easily fire everything up, make all the necessary connections easily without a problem. Well, it turned out I couldn’t.

After a bit of fiddling, I got it to work. Always points to poor documentation by the Taiwan manufacturer of the bridge I bought.This piece of hardware DAC-100 is from Data Video.
