Guests at a Laotian wedding give the lucky couple a ribbing.
It being Spring and soon to be wedding season, I thought I could offer some suggestions to brides who are looking for the “dreaded wedding photographer.”
First, let me stress that I’m specifically referring to a still photographer and not a videographer. The videographer is a different animal altogether.
If when you’re interviewing someone and he says he can do it all, “Run!” Many vendors claim they can do both. It is probably true, but one person can’t do it simultaneously. I’m highly skeptical that the same person can put a video camera down and pick up a still camera without missing a beat.
Each is its own discipline. If your wedding is important, I would suggest you get separate vendors.

The last time I checked I had at least 10 hard drives of various capacities.
They are just chocked full of images, some I’ve shot, others from friends and students.
The packrat in me doesn’t allow me to throw anything away.
Well, not exactly. I just wonder if there’s any photographer out there who claims to have his all his data in order.
It’s starting to get a little out-of-control.
My computing excesses aside, I never believed I would generate so much “data” in such a short time.
Of course, the fact that I am teaching compounds my computing needs for space.
My students are turning in their images even though on jpegs at their largest settings.
So assuming a class of 20 with an average of just 1-assignment-a-week and the average file being 3MB, that’s a staggering 60MB.
No offense but most of their pictures are out-of-focus, poorly exposed so I have to erase those files as soon as I grade them to free up space. Continue reading What do you name your hard drives?
Ryan and Katie at the end of our 2-hour photo session appears to have forgotten about us lurking in the background.
Katie and Ryan drove an hour and half from San Diego over the weekend to meet with me.
Brave souls they are to trust a complete stranger whom they’ve never met to do an engagement portrait.
I just spoke to Katie over the phone. One of my former students Jayme who’s doing extremely well in her photography business, was the intermediary.
