Photographer Jill Greenberg–did her ego get the better of her?

A bad economy and a presidential election coming to a close has way of pushing everything else into the background.

It’s to be expected then that even photographers feel they want to or can influence the outcome of important events like this Presidential election.

When I read about  Canadian-born photographer Jill Greenberg and her portrait session with John McCain, I was a little disturbed.

A disclaimer here is in order: I’m not a big fan of Obama but can’t say I will vote against him either.

Kek Lok Si temple

Kek Lok Si Temple sits on the foothills above the town of Air Itam (black water in Malay).

I shouldn’t have expected dramatic changes to this Penang landmark.

Typical of religious places of worship in Malaysia, they derive their funding based solely on donations.

Unlike mosques which seem to sprout all over, there are no funds from the government.

So this temple is pretty much how I remember it.

The climb to the top of the temple is not terribly strenous but does require some exertion.

UC Irvine Medal of Honor fundraiser

A daredevil high-flying acrobat dangles precariously by a long piece of fabric as she swings high over the audience during UCI’s Medal of Honor celebration October 2007.

This post was originally published late last year but I’m republishing it because my earlier blog crashed.

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with good friend fellow photographer Carlos Puma last October.

It was like old times when we both worked at the Press-Enterprise newspaper, yet it was more satisfying in so many other ways.
